As the parent of a young child, you have undoubtedly experienced a number of challenges and struggles with feeding. From fussiness to difficulty latching, your infant may potentially have issues related to a tongue-tie, lip-tie, or both. As a parent, it is natural to want to seek out solutions to this that may provide relief to both you and your baby. A CO2 (carbon dioxide) laser frenectomy is an efficient and safe procedure that may help alleviate the discomfort, pain, and stress associated with feeding and allow your baby to thrive.

At Cumberland Valley Pediatric Dentistry, Dr. Caster and her team understand the importance of making sure that you and your child are comfortable during the appointment. At your first visit, your child will be seen for an initial consultation and clinical assessment. The team is here to educate and inform you regarding tongue and lip restrictions and allow you to ask any questions you may have.

Tongue Tie and Breastfeeding

If a frenectomy is recommended, a CO2 laser will be used as it allows for healing of the tissue to begin right away with minimal bleeding during the procedure. The goal of the frenectomy is to minimize and alleviate signs and symptoms associated with tongue-ties and lip-ties in infants. After the procedure, post-operative exercises will be recommended. A follow-up visit will be scheduled after the completion of the procedure to ensure proper healing. Routine care and follow-up with a lactation consultant is extremely important if breastfeeding. Bottle-feeding babies benefit from seeing a feeding therapist. Supportive care with a pediatric chiropractor or craniosacral therapist is also very helpful.

At our Camp Hill office, laser frenectomies are performed within a few minutes and with utmost care and precision. Dr. Caster and her team strive to make it a stress-free experience for both you and your baby. Our goal is for your child to thrive and have improved overall health. Please do not hesitate to contact our office if you have any further questions or would like to discuss a laser frenectomy consultation for your child. We are here to help!
